Retro Game Weekly Issue#23 5/4/22
“It’s time to kick ass and chew bubble gum…and I’m all outta gum.” Duke Nukem
Good morning Retro Gamerz!
I hope everyone is having a great week! I’m currently preparing to hold down the fort while my fiancé goes out of town for the week. This means that for 7 whole days I’ll have 7 straight game nights. I might try to stream on my Instagram some of those nights. So if you’re on there throw me a follow @PlayStationChavy.
Thanks for reading!

Another older story-driven homebrew, Weekend is a lot of fun. Wander around a scenic countryside and interesting characters that sometimes hit a little too close to home. I've played it several times trying to unlock all the puzzles successfully. Great characters and design. Available via itch.io
May The 4th Be With You!
Even though I’m not a big Star Wars fan I feel I’d be remiss if I didn’t include something about the iconic franchise. So let’s talk about Star Wars Battlefront II! I loved this game as a kid. I didn’t care if I was fighting as of the (Very Nice) rebels or the (Very Evil) Empire, I was having a blast! I know there’s a bajillion other Star Wars games that people played growing up. So if you have any of those games hidden away in clutter, knock the dust off of it and celebrate the holiday!
I Bought Pokémon Yellow For $15 AMA
Yes you read that right! Thanks to a $35 trade in value of my OG GameBoy Advance I was able to buy Pokémon Yellow at a 70% discount! So far I’ve collected 6 Pokémon and I’m training to beat Brock and collect my first gym badge! I hadn’t played the OG Pokémon games in quite some time and not that I had ever underestimated them, but I had forgot just how well they hold up. They pushed the hardware to the absolute limit and it is nothing short of impressive.
SEGA’s Licensing Is Out Of Control!
I like to make fake video game covers in my downtime. I might start posting them in each issue. Some are absurd like this, others I actually have backstories written out and gameplay ideas.
But seriously in the 90’s it feels like everyone who was anyone got a video game with their name slapped on it!
What Are We Playing This Week?
As I mentioned before I have 7 days of gaming ahead of me. I’ll most likely start out with Road Rash for the PS1. I started a career last week and as someone who found the game too hard as a kid I need to beat it. Keeping in the PS1 realm I almost forgot I had Crash Bandicoot, so I’ll be looking to finish that game as well.
I want to hear from you the reader. What are you playing this week?
Replaying Majora’s Mask as research for my newsletter. Loving it just as much this time around, too!
