Fighting Force 2 Review
I’m a big fan of the beat ‘em up genre. From Streets of Rage to Tekken Force to Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks. Beating up an almost endless group of cronies while progressing through a decent story is mindless fun!
So Wednesday night as I tried out more games in my collection I fired up Fighting Force 2 for the PS1. This 1999 beat ‘em up from Eidos is a follow up to the 1997 Fighting Force. I vaguely remember liking the Fighting Force game as a kid, so combined with my love of beat ‘em ups I thought it’d be a slam dunk that I’d like Fighting Force 2.
Wrong.
Plain and simple, this game sucks. I didn’t even make it past the first level before I decided to turn it off. The camera work was wonky as hell. I couldn’t move without having to stop every few steps to let the camera catch up with me. Every cronie I fought ended up with a free hit due to the camera being wonky and I’d have to adjust it and then wait for the slowly responding controller input. The story was meh. I’m not expecting full blown FMV but something besides rolling text would’ve been a nice touch.
While doing some research on this game I found that it wasn’t well received when released so at least I’m not alone in thinking this game is hot garbage.
I was very surprised to see the same team behind this game was also behind the Tomb Raider series. Because as far as I can remember the Tomb Raider series never had camera issues I ran into while playing Fighting Force 2. Oh well I guess everybody has a bad day!

6 PS1 Games I’m On The Hunt For In 2023
I’ve created what the basic white girls would call a “vision board” for 2023. On this board I am putting games across all consoles that I want to collect this year. I figure why keep it a secret when I can write about it in the newsletter!
Gex: Enter The Gecko
I’ve never played the Gex series but I want to buy this because playing as a Gecko and running through levels sounds awesome as hell lol. And I am a sucker for platformers.
Driver
This is strictly a nostalgia buy. I remember having the squad over and renting this from Family Video (RIP) and taking turns playing this into the wee hours of the night. I’ve already got Driver 2 and Dr3ver, now I just need this to complete my Driver Infinity Gauntlet.
Syphon Filter
Another nostalgia buy. I remember loving this series as a kid. One of the rare W’s from 989 Studios.
Medal of Honor
My goal this year is to collect every Medal of Honor game. I’ve got a decent amount for the PS2 and now it’s time to go back and start collecting where the series started. I was always a sucker for these covers too, so even if I don’t play them they’ll be astatically pleasing for my collection.
Silent Hill
This one will be pricy. But I can’t remember the last video game that spooked me while I played it. I think this game can change that.
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation
Much like Medal of Honor I want every Tomb Raider game. This is the year I cross off entire franchises as part of my collection!
Creator Spotlight
This week’s creator spotlight shines a light on Instagram user @YeahThatsRetro. If you’re a fan of retro games and sneakers you’ll love his account! As a man with almost zero style I am envious of his sense of style and shoe collection. Each post has a unique setup with sneakers, video games, funko pops, and anything else that will make sure to catch the mindlessly wandering eye of Insta scrollers!
Here’s a taste of the style!
